CONGRATULATIONS TO NATS STUDENT AUDITION SINGERS!

On Saturday, January 27th, 6 of my students participated in the Tahoma Chapter of the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Student Auditions.  This is a chance for students to prepare a variety of repertoire and sing in front of 3 professional judges for critical feedback.   Congratulations to: Amy Cole, Michael Shook, Mateo Nigretto-Ellner, Alivia Jones, Christina Nelson, and Gillian Dockins!  You all sang beautifully and I'm so proud of your hard work and growth!

Special recognition goes to:

Michael Shook: 3rd place in Adult Classical Category

Gillian Dockins: 3rd place in Upper College Classical Women Category

Alivia Jones: 2nd place Upper High School Classical Women Category

Mateo Nigretto-Ellner: 1st place in Lower High School Classical Men Category

Christina Nelson: 1st place in Advanced Classical Category

Also on Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending PLU Opera's production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and it was just stunning.  Bravi tutti to all cast, orchestra, and crew!  Special kudos to my students Elissa Brown and Gillian Dockins, who are featured in the prologue and part of the ensemble, and to Timari Smith, who was a fearsome witch and a delightful member of the ensemble.

January and February Events!

Tuesday, January 16, 2018 by Holly Boaz | News

There are lots of things coming up in January and February for students and families!

Saturday, January 27th, 4 students from my private studio and 3 from my PLU studio will participate in the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Tahoma Chapter Student Auditions.  This is an opportunity to sing before a critical audience (usually 3 professional voice teachers), receive constructive feedback, and hear peers.  Good luck NATS performers!

PLU Opera Workshop presents Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in Eastvold Auditorium at the Karen Hille Philips Center.  Jan 25, 26, and 27th at 7:30pm, Jan 28 at 3pm.  Tickets $17, $10 for military, PLU alum, and senior, and $5 for students and PLU Community members.  I will be attending on Jan. 27th.  Let me know if you'd like to join me!

For any McMurray Middle School students interested in singing in choir: there will be an icebreaker event for the Choir Club on February 6th right after school in the multipurpose room.  I'll be there, and there will be FREE PIZZA!  Come and meet the new director, find out what choir will be doing this year, and have fun spiffing up the stage for rehearsals and performances.  Choir Club begins on February 27th.

Vashon Theatre is presenting a series of opera broadcasts this year from the "The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD".  There are lots of wonderful operas being shown in the coming months.  I'd love to see a big group from the studio join together and attend the showing of La Bohème on February 24th and 9:30am.  Save the date!
